Two men were taken into custody after trying to evade North Okanagan RCMP at risky, high speeds late last week.

Police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle driving around properties on Sleep Hollow Road in Spallumcheen north of Vernon around 12:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 25, according to an RCMP media release.

Officers located the vehicle on Highland Park Avenue but when they attempted to stop it, the driver accelerated and fled at a high rate of speed, RCMP said. Police did not pursue the vehicle to prevent any additional risk to the public.

Officers later located the vehicle, which turned out to be stolen, and arrested the occupants, a Lake Country man, 47, and an Osoyoos man, 39, one of whom was found to be in possession of a weapon which was a violation of his probation order, police said..

The men both face a number of charges and were released from custody with court dates.
